These super-thick wool socks were once standard issue for scientists and contractors deploying to remote Antarctic stations. In the early 2000s, the Antarctic Program shifted to requiring participants to bring their own socks, leaving these as some of the last remaining stock. These particular socks were discovered in a cache at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, offering a rare glimpse into Antarctic history.
